How long does SMP last?

This is a cosmetic tattoo, slightly different to a normal body tattoo. The technique, needles and pigments are specialised for the scalp and we don't go as deep into the skin.

The original treatment can last up to 10 years for some people, but fades over time to a very light shadow. You will need to get the colour refreshed every 2 - 5 years. If you did not receive any refreshes eventually it would fade to pretty much nothing. Everyone's skin is different so times are just a guideline.

Who can get this done?

Anyone over the age of 18 who is experiencing hair loss, thinning, recession or who has scarring they wish to be covered, filled in, re-created or camouflaged. Your scalp must also be free from any conditions that may affect the application or retention of the pigment.

A quick consultation can determine whether you are suitable and what treatment you may qualify for e.g. density over shaved head.

What happens long term?

Long term aftercare is very simple, wear and use appropriate sun protection, exfoliate and moisturise your scalp and keep your hair trimmed or styled to a length that compliments your SMP treatment. If you continue to lose your hair or your treatment needs a little boost, book in for refresh sessions or follow up consults to determine the best course of action e.g. braving the shave and getting a new hairline!

Does it hurt?

As SMP is not performed at the same depth or using the same technique as traditional tattooing it doesn't create mass trauma to the skin. Think of it more like a small papercut vs a large graze. Most people who receive SMP say the pain level is a 2 - 5/10.

Are there any risks or side effects?

While SMP is generally a safe and reliable procedure, there are risks involved which vary based on application error, client aftercare and general skin health. These can include things like blow outs, pigment discolouration or rejection and potential infections.

By seeing a reputable artist, following aftercare guidelines and having any potential skin issues or concerns reviewed by a doctor, your SMP will look amazing for longer.
